IEEE MSS in association with Women in Engineering organized the three day national workshop Beyond Glass Barriers-BGB 2020 as an online event during 27th to 29th 2020. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Sathidevi P S, Deputy Director, NIT Calicut. Dr. S D Madhukumar , Chair IEEE Malabar Subsection presided the inaugural function.
The first session was specifically meant for students on the topic ‘Identify your potential to excel in your career’, handled by Er. Smitha Negi , Soft skill trainer and managerial coach . The session was an interactive brain storming session. The session emphasized on the steps to be taken at the start of graduation itself, so as to realise our real potentials and start working for professional enhancement as they progress in their graduation.
The second session was on the topic “Enhancing women mental health – the balance between work and family life” and was handled by Dr. Seema P Uthaman, Head – Dept of Psychiatric Social Work IMHANS, Kozhikode, with which the sessions for day1 was completed.
The sessions for the second day were mainly focussing on the women professionals. The first session started at 10am and was on the topics “How to excel in your career- identify the opportunities under your feet” by Dr. Joshith V P, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, Central University of Kerala. The second session was on the topic “bring out the researcher in you – a glimpse of the possible opportunities that can contribute to your research life” by Dr. Judy MV, Professor, Dept of Computer Applications, CUSAT. The session was a very interesting session in which the different research funding opportunities exclusively for women professionals and the possible scholarship opportunities for the women pursuing higher education, were discussed.
The third session was on “How to balance your career and family- an insight about the challenges faced by women engineering professionals and the possible solutions “ by Dr.Anu Mary Chacko
Asst Prof, NIT Calicut. The last session was a session on Yoga for beginners. The yoga coach was Mrs. Jaya Moosad from Arvions Power yoga centre, Calicut. The yoga session covered some basic asanaas that the professional women can practice each for their health maintenance and stress relief. The events on day 2 came to an end at around 1:30 pm.
On the third day we had a session on “ Safeguard yourself from cyber attacks” by Ms. Sreelakshmy, Information Security Professional, which started at 2:30pm, followed by a 1hour yoga session. The 3 day national workshop came to an end on 27th November at around 4:00pm. The number of participants were around 40.
