Amarnath Raja Humanitarian Technology Award
The Amarnath Raja Humanitarian Technology Award is established in memory of Sri Amarnath Raja, the Cofounder of InApp and Past Chair of IEEE Kerala Section, recognising his outstanding contributions in the area of Humanitarian Engineering and upliftment of underprivileged communities within society with Engineering solutions. The primary objective of the award is to honor individuals or groups making significant contributions in Humanitarian Engineering, resulting in substantial improvements in the lives of the underprivileged. Eligibility and Areas of Contribution: The award is open to Indian citizen Engineers/Scientists or groups who have made original contributions in various fields, such as electrification, healthcare, clean water, communication facilities, software platforms, assistive technologies, and other
relevant areas impacting society positively.
Award : The award includes a cash prize of Rs. 75,000.00, a plaque/citation, and travel expenses
totaling Rs. 1,00,000/-.
Selection Procedure: An evaluation committee comprises an activist in Humanitarian Activities, representatives of InApp and IEEE Kerala Section, to evaluate nominations based on specific criteria –
- Contributions to Humanitarian Engineering (50%)
- Impacts at the Societal/National Level (30%)
- Innovations/R&D and Demonstration Efforts (20%)

Light for Lives: by Jawahara Fathima and team
For identifying the right requirement of electrification of Anganwadi and houses in tribal area where electricity has not reached, mobilizing the students to architecture an efficient solution of solar panel, installing the same and thus providing engineering solution to a humanitarian problem for a social cause.
Winners of Amarnath Raja Humanitarian Award 2022
Drinking Water using Renewable Energy at Baveli by Abhinav R and team.
Implementation of a solar powered water pumping system for domestic drinking water along with
street lighting for the Meenkolli tribal colony at Baveli in Waynad District.
The jury will shortlist the projects for further evaluation. Evaluation round will be scheduled where all the shortlisted teams will present their project followed by a Q& A session by jury. Evaluation criteria stress upon Social Impact, Humanitarian Relevance, Innovation, Status of
Implementation, and Possibility of Scaling.
Award will be distributed at the Awards Ceremony, scheduled on 14th Dec,2024 at 10 – 12 AM, at The Renai, Cochin.
